Teaching it a word

Speech recognition sometimes hears one word as another. You say “প্রম্পট” (prompt) and get “ফ্রন্ট” (front). Fixing it every time is tiresome, so Ukti can learn.

Fix it once, and Ukti remembers

  1. After Ukti writes into a box, correct the wrong word by hand.
  2. Ukti asks: “Remember this? Next time ‘ফ্রন্ট’ becomes ‘প্রম্পট’.”
  3. Press Yes, remember and it is saved. Press No and nothing is saved.

From then on, when it hears that word it writes the right one by itself.

To notice a correction, Ukti watches only the box it has just written into, for two minutes, and compares what is there with what it wrote. Only a change to one to three of Ukti’s own words counts. If you rewrite the whole sentence, or change words you wrote yourself, it asks nothing.

Writing them yourself

From Ukti’s toolbar icon, under Words, add one per line, “what it hears = what it becomes”:

ফ্রন্ট = প্রম্পট
কি = কী

Only whole words are replaced, so “কি = কী” does not turn “কিছু” into “কীছু”.

The full list, saving and loading

Under Words, All words, save to or load from a file opens a page with everything in one place: the words you wrote and the words Ukti learnt.

  • Change or delete: edit a line or remove it; it saves by itself.
  • Save to a file: downloads the whole list to a file, wherever you choose.
  • Load from a file: brings in a list saved on another computer. If the same heard word is in both, the file’s version wins and nothing is duplicated. Files over 1 MB, more than 2,000 rules in all, or words longer than 200 characters are refused.

Where the list lives

On your computer, in Chrome’s storage for the extension. It is never uploaded. Of everything you say, this is the most personal, so it stays with you. Removing Ukti deletes the list too, so save it to a file first if you want to keep it.
