The control does not appear

Check, one at a time:

  1. Was the tab open before you installed Ukti? Refresh it with F5.
  2. Is Ukti switched off? Press Ukti’s icon and check that On everywhere and This site are both on.
  3. Is When it shows set to Chosen sites? Then turn this site on there, or choose Smart. See On and off.
  4. Is it a password, OTP, PIN or card field? Ukti stays out of those on purpose.
  5. Is it one of Chrome’s own pages? No extension can work on pages that start with chrome:// or on the Chrome Web Store.

The microphone does not work

  • Check the microphone permission: from Ukti’s icon, Open setup, and do step one again.
  • Check whether another tab is using the microphone. Ukti can listen in one tab at a time, and says so when another tab takes the microphone.
  • Check your computer’s own settings allow Chrome to use the microphone.

Text stops appearing after a while

Google’s free voice service has a limit, so after a long stretch of talking it can stop responding. Press the mic to stop, then press it again. Speaking a paragraph at a time makes this rarer.

No internet

Speech recognition happens on Google’s servers, so dictation does not work without the internet. Ukti says so at once when the connection drops, and the ring around the mic turns amber. Banglish to Bangla and English translation work offline.

Pressing EN does nothing

The language packs are not downloaded. Ukti says “open setup” when this happens. Go to setup and download both packs. Translation also needs Chrome 138 or newer: from Chrome’s menu, Help → About Google Chrome, to update.

Ukti says the text could not go into the box

Some sites’ editors refuse changes they did not make themselves. Ukti tries three different ways of putting text in, and checks after each whether the editor kept it. If none of them work, it leaves your text exactly as it was and tells you, rather than writing the sentence in twice. You can then read the words from the preview and type them in yourself.

Known problem: Gemini. In Google’s Gemini, dictated text does not always stay in the box yet. This is an open problem and is being worked on.

Wrong spellings from Banglish

This happens, because roman letters cannot tell শ from স, or থ from ঠ. Fix the word and add it to your own list. See Banglish to Bangla and Teaching it a word.
