Translating to English

Some places need English: a work email, a form, or a chat with someone who does not read Bangla. Ukti can help two ways.

Turning the text in the box into English

  1. Have Bangla text in the box, dictated or typed.
  2. Press EN on Ukti’s control. From the keyboard, Alt+Shift+2.
  3. The whole text becomes English. To get the Bangla back, press Undo.

If the box holds Banglish, press অ first to make it Bangla, then EN. Pressing অ after EN does not translate back; it brings back your own Bangla words.

Speaking Bangla, writing English

Press Ukti’s icon in the toolbar and choose English under Output. Then whatever you say in Bangla goes into the box as its English translation, a sentence at a time.

Where the translation happens

The translating is done by Chrome’s own translator (the Translator API), on your computer. Your text goes nowhere. It needs Chrome 138 or newer and the two language packs, downloaded once during setup.

If a pack is missing, Ukti says so and asks you to open setup. It never falls back to an online translation service. If English output is chosen, it puts in the Bangla instead, so your words are not lost.

How good the translation is

It is machine translation. Good with ordinary speech, but it can get complex sentences, idioms and personal turns of phrase wrong. And if the Bangla has a misspelt word, such as one that came from Banglish, the translation will be wrong too. Read anything important before you send it.
